The 2008 Sporting Team Captain Shoot was held over 6 stands due to admistration error by those setting the shoot up on the Friday evening. The first 5 stands consisted of 4 pairs , with 10 targets shot on the crosser and battue. There was good support from visitors who hopefully enjoyed the wide range of targets on offer and the complimentary BBQ. |

Results from the TR Classic 70 - 8th Sept 2007 |

This years TR Classic was again held as a 70 bird squadded re-entry shoot with the TR Classic High Gun and Novice trophys up for grabs. Only 3 guns out of 108 entries managed to break the 60 barrier on what proved to be a testing but enjoyable layout. Last years TR High Gun and Novice winners ( Joe Tomlinson and Ronnie Clyde) where again in the running, but it wasnt to be , with Trevor Currie taking the Hign Gun Trophy from Joe by 2 birds. Ronnie matched the winning Novice score but it was I Mawihnny that was still on the ground late on to collect the trophy. Club member Allister Lavery continued his good form taking the class B win with Danny Kelly. The results were overshadowed by club member Russell Kennedy sustaining a serious hand injury while filling a trap. The club wish Russell a speedy recovery and hope to see him back at the next club shoot. The club would also like to make a further request for the return of the TR Classic High gun Cup. This trophy has a long history within the club and Carrick CPC would be very pleased to see it returned. |

Saturday 25th November brought this years Co Antrim Sporting League to conclusion at Carricks shooting grounds on the Bentra Road, Ballycarry. Each of the 145 entries will now understand why the area is called the Windy Gap, as a severe weather warning had been issued , and for once, the forecast wasn’t far wrong. As is the custom for the final, each of the five clubs setup and man one stand throughout the day. This format provided a wide variety of target presentations that was appreciated by all taking part. The generosity of Willie Jones’s sponsorship of the league was also noted with each entry to the shoot receiving a free box of cartridges. As seems to be the norm, Langley Humphries got DerryBoye off to a flier with 46 and there would be a further 20 entries before anyone else broke the 40 barrier on a fairly testing course in the conditions. The second man through 40 was I Corbett with 44, which set the early pace for B class. While Richard McCracken did match his score late on, it would be P Cassidys day in B Class with a well shot 46. Carrickfergus club member Brian Gordon returned a first entry score of 39 which held the lead in C class for the remainder of the day. A few came close , with his brother John Gordon matching this total with a re-entry and fellow Carrickfergus club member Brian Mulqueeny one behind on 38. Andrew McKeown returned a superb 48 on his first card to take a well deserved High Gun in the less than ideal conditions. This promoted Davy Logan to first place in A class with 45, closely followed by Uel Harrison and Terry McPhillips on 44. The AA honours were shared on 46 between Langely, Joe Tomlinson and Winston Gregg. Winston having the honour of greatest improvement on any re-entry. |

152 entries attempted the 5 stands presented by the Carrickfergus club on a day that started very wet and overcast but fortunately continued to improve as the entry count increased. Early entries had wind and very heavy rain to contend with, but this didn’t seem to affect Langley Humphries, as he recorded a 47 on his first card, getting the Derryboye club off to a flying start. Langleys 47 was unchallenged by the majority of first entries, though Hugh Simms matched the 47 with this second card and Trevor Currie and K Humphries went close with 46 to take the places in AA. A Hamill and G Fulton had held the early lead in A with 43, before Terry McPhillips carded a 44. This spurred the class into action, with re-entries from G Fulton and F Cardwell recording 46 and 45 respectively. Fresh from manning stand 2, Carrick club member Owen Brennan matched Glenns 46 ,late on, for a share of the cash in A. B class started to take shape after W. McClimmond registered the first of what would be five 44s in this class. 44 was good enough for a share of second place , as P Cassidy took the class on 46 after Hillsborough member Stephen Pollock shot a 48 to be promoted to High Gun. Some familiar names appeared in the places in C class with Ronnie Clyde taking his second class win in as many shoots at Carrick. C Rooney and Carrick member Brian Mulqueeny took second and third respectively. The shoot was also well supported by the members of the GlenShane CPC, with S Donnell taking the novice trophy with 40. |

There was something for everyone here, with closer birds in the shelter of the forest, and distant high crossers out in the fields. Stand 6 proved to be the most testing stand , with a high l-r crosser followed by a L-R battue. The shoot-off for the Novice trophy was held on this stand between Ronnie Clyde and Tim Mcknight. Ronnie put in a respectable 6/10 that Tim couldn't match this time around. |
